Japan to provide yen loans to develop ports in the Indian Ocean

As part of Japan’s “free and open Indo-Pacific strategy”, the country plans to provide loans for the development of ports in three Indian Ocean nations — Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Dawei in southeast Myanmar, Trincomalee in northern Sri Lanka and Matarbari in southeast Bangladesh are the three sites that are being considered for development.
